Thanks to a grant from Flight Path, part of the Spark of Science @My Library initiative, the Cody Library will host a series of free bird-related programs from now through spring 2026. The grant provides educational materials designed to help communities learn about bird migration, local species, and ways to support bird habitats close to home.

Current Activities at the Cody Library

Patrons visiting the Cody Library right now can join a fun bird scavenger hunt. Six bird pictures are hidden throughout the library, and those who find all six can claim a small prize at the front desk. Visitors can also explore the informational bird display located in the library lobby.

Upcoming Programs

The first program in the series, on Wednesday, November 6, is Drawing & Painting Birds with Olivia Bergeon from the Park County Conservation District.

This hands-on workshop is designed for teens in grades 6–12, and sign-up is required at the Cody Teen Library (307) 527-1889.

On Friday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m., Zach Hutchinson from Audubon Rockies will present Feeding Winter Birds, discussing the best ways to feed birds during the colder months. Susan Hovde of Red Lodge will also share tips for creating a backyard feeder setup that keeps feeders safe from bears. This program is free, open to all ages, and no sign-up is necessary. Door prizes will be available.

Looking ahead, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Corey Anco from the Draper Museum of Natural History will host a Beginning Birding program, perfect for those who want to learn the basics of birdwatching.

On Wednesday, January 29, Kathy Lichtendahl, a wildlife photographer from Cody, will host Photographing Things with Wings, giving participants insight into capturing birds and other winged wildlife on camera.

In April (date to be announced), a session on Creating Pollinator & Bird-Friendly Yards will feature Kendra Morris of Pollen Landscapes, along with Olivia Bergeon and Bobbie Holder, sharing practical tips for attracting and supporting local birds and pollinators in your own backyard.

Finally, during May, the library will offer weekly birding field trips at the Paul Stock Trail, giving the community hands-on opportunities to observe birds in their natural habitat. Details for these trips will be announced closer to the month, so stay tuned!

Whether you’re a seasoned birder, a budding photographer, or someone who just enjoys watching chickadees out the kitchen window, there’s a feathered program for you at the Cody Library.

Bring your curiosity, grab a friend, and get ready to spread your wings!
