Three New Library Cards, One Big Reason to Visit

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and Park County Library has something new to celebrate!

Three brand-new library card designs have arrived at the Park County Libraries.

Featuring three distinctly Wyoming-inspired designs, the new cards are a fun way to show off your library pride and start your next library adventure.

We have a limited number of each design, so stop by and get yours while they last!

A library card has a long history of opening doors

Library Card Sign-up Month has been celebrated every September since 1988, following a national campaign launched the year before. The campaign began in 1987 after then-U.S. Secretary of Education William Bennett called for a campaign encouraging every child to obtain and use a library card. The American Library Association and libraries across the country have continued the tradition ever since.

While the campaign originally focused on making sure every child had a library card, today a library card is for everyone. At Park County Libraries, there is no age requirement. Yes, even your baby can have a library card!

Getting a card is easy

To get a Park County Library card, all you need is:

• Proof of residency

• A photo ID

  
  

That's it. Once you have your card, you can check out up to 50 regular library items at a time.

And there is a lot to choose from. Of course, we have books. Lots and lots of books. But your library card can also get you movies, music, games, puzzles, and an ever-growing collection of Library of Things items. There are tools, technology, games, kits, and all sorts of things designed to help you learn something new, try a new hobby, solve a problem, or simply have some fun.

Most regular items check out for two weeks, with two automatic renewals. Some specialty items have different borrowing periods or checkout limits, but our staff can help you figure out the details.

Already have a library card?

You don't have to be a first-time cardholder to join the fun. If you already have a Park County Library card but love one of the new designs, you can switch to a new card while supplies last. Just keep in mind that your library card number will change, so you may need to update your card number in the digital resources and services where your old number is saved.

Make the library part of your routine

Library Card Sign-up Month is a great excuse to make the library a regular part of your family's week. Get a card for everyone in the family. Pick a day and make it Library Day. Come in after school. Stop by on your way home from work. Browse for something you've never read before. Pick out entertainment for the weekend. Find something in the Library of Things you've always wanted to try.

Your library card is small.
