This summer, the Park County Libraries are launching into a season filled with books, creativity, community, and celebration.
Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this year’s theme, “Stars, Stripes, and Stories,” celebrates the stories that connect us: family stories, community stories, American stories, and the unforgettable adventures waiting inside every book.
What Is the Summer Reading Program?
The Summer Reading Program is a nationwide library tradition designed to encourage reading all summer long. For students, reading during the summer helps prevent the “summer slide,” a learning gap that can happen when school is out. Just a little reading each day helps kids keep their minds active and ready for the next school year.
But Summer Reading is about much more that.
It is about:
Discovering new books and authors
Building lifelong reading habits
Exploring creativity and imagination
Spending meaningful time together as a family
Connecting with the community through fun events and activities
Making the library a place of adventure all summer long
This year, each Park County Library will put its own unique spin on the celebration with programs inspired by the interests and personality of its community.
